The Paulinskill River Hyper-Humus Wildlife Management Area is an easy seven mile bike ride from our house, almost entirely along the primarily flat Paulinskill Trail with an access about a mile from our house. An Audubon designated Important Bird Area with several large ponds and cattail marshes it makes a great morning bike ride as a destination. Originally created in the 1900's by a peat and humus mining operation it was closed before that kind of mining became illegal. It is a regular destination on my morning bike rides and I look forward to the seasons of bird migration, fall and spring to see what passes through.
